That's what [livejournal.com profile] david_de_beer calls my story "Touching the Dead" in his reivew posted: here. ::dimpling::

I guess reading all those books on forensics paid off...I just got a copy of Death's Acre...ooh, fun research time. ;o)

I think we've decided (as per the previous discussion)that 'Honorable Mention' is the same thing as 'Quarterfinalist', which does not mean top thirty-two. Good enough for me.

Off to the gym now. On day two of No Diet Coke. Headache. Bleh...

ETA: TNOD off to Brutarian. I've never subbed there before, but I thought it might fit.

Wow! What a great review!

Are you putting that one in your scrapbook? n.n

Scrapbook? I'm not organized enough to do scrapbooks. I'll keep a computer file, though ;o)

A friend of a friend worked on Death's Acre (the one in Tennessee, there are two), researching the effect of textiles, I think. He said that she said it didn't weird her out until one day she procrastinated checking her body, and had to get her day's stats at night. In the dark. With a flashlight.

She said walking through the woods with the flashlight flickering across the corpses was, in fact, freaky.

I would think that expecting to see them would ally any real horror. Still, I don't intend to visit the place anytime soon....much less at night!

Nice review! And, yeah, took me a bit too but "Honorable Mention" is the new "Quarterfinalist," which is still a good thing. Not a win, but better than nuffin'.

heh, well the CSI was more a moment of irresistible cheekiness, but claim it as your own, it's all good!
Glad you liked the review.

Oh, heck, be cheeky!
::sprinkling confetti all about::

Secretly, I've wondered if the current leaning toward forensic based tv would be helpful in selling Shironne's stories (and novel) so the comparison is a nice one for me. And I didn't even have to prompt you to use it. ;o)

Very cool! Computer scrapbooks are good. I keep such things in one and consider it such an "artifact." I pull it up during the dark times, which we all have. Glad things are going well for you. :)

Yes, slumps really stink. one of the worst parts of writing is that you have no daily interaction with others to cheer you up....well, unless you blog, that is... ;o)

I forgot to say, and I've been wanting to say this to someone. Over the last two years, I've sent three stories their way. Proper format and everything. Never heard back from them. They never answered my query letters ethier. I think I exist in a Brutarian blackhole or something. I've thought of subscribing, but I'm afraid it would never arrive in my mailbox. Oh well... lol

That's weird. I checked their response time on the Black Hole page---but now I think I'd better go double check it. Thanks for the heads up!

It could just be my luck of the draw, but I know what I'm writing isn't so bad that it doesn't even deserve a form rejection or a reply to my queries. Let's face it, most people nowadays who read these second-tier zines are writers or wannabe writers. Even if my mother--she's not a writer, btw--had a story in Brutarian, I wouldn't read it there. Even if I gave her a deep line edit to see which of my suggestions she actually used. hee

I'm not trying to be too negative, but to me Brutarian is a dead market. Even JJA says "Dear Marshall" before giving me the usual "Didn't grab me." F&SF knows where their bread is buttered, I think. :)

I'll keep it in mind. The current listed turn-aroud time is pretty short, so I expect to get it back pretty quickly. I just wanted to to give it a try.

There's an anthology I intend to send this story to....but it doesn't open until Aug 1. ;o)

Whoo-hoo!

That is an awesome review.

And keep off the Diet Coke. If even half the horror stories about aspartame are true, that stuff is just evil.

I'm actually doing it for my teeth, not the tummy. The acid in it can pit the surface of the teeth, so...sigh....I'll give it up. Not giving up caffeine though!
