Popping in...
Aug. 2nd, 2023 02:33 pmIt's been about 3 years since I last posted here, at the end of that super-stressful period where my in-laws were living with us. Since then, they've moved back to their own place (although they've had to come stay with us periodically for one reason or another.) Dementia is not a laughing matter, so hubs and I are both working to escape the fate that appears in both sets of parents.
(I'm losing weight and making sure all my familial health issues are under watch, plus challenging my brain by trying to learn new stuff. It doesn't sound like much, but I'm hoping I have a couple of decades before the threat gets serious.) Aging isn't for the faint of heart, is it?
Since the last time I was here, we also had to let go of Alwyn and Penny, our Airedales. Both developed brain tumors, of different kinds, but in the end, the seizures were their undoing. On the other hand, they both lived to 11, which for dogs at 90lbs is a respectable old age.
We have since gained two new dogs, both rescues and both Mixed breeds. Tucker is more Great Pyrenees than anything else, and Hilde is mostly German Shepherd.

Retirement is coming around the corner for my husband, so there are a lot of decisions to make, but we're hoping that any crises with our in-laws won't happen until after that. (My father lives a couple of hours drive from here, but my brother is around the corner from him, so he keeps an eye on Dad.)
In any case, I'm hoping to drop in here again more regularly. I'm trying to hit facebook once a month, and that seems overwhelming, so we'll see if I can manage this place.
(I'm also on Mastadon and Insta)
