Czerneda vs. Roberson
Jun. 20th, 2007 06:01 pmI've ground to a halt on the May story. For some reason, the motivation behind the secondary crime dissolved in the problematic world of the police procedural...erp!
So, I started working on my novel proposal for a workshop that's due in a little over a month. I haven't touched The White Queen since I finished the first draft some time ago.
I took the first two chapters to ArmadilloCon last year and ran them through the workshop there. I just reread my critiques from Julie Czerneda and Chris Roberson. They do not say the same thing. At all.
It's very telling--having read books by both of them--who said what. Czerneda said that the setting should be 'lush' and wanted me to put in a lot more detail and backstory info. (Since I don't really do setting in the first draft, that's a given.) Roberson basically wanted me to have TV endings to the chapters--and a better hook.
They are both right.
So now, I have to plump these up (and write out the outline (I currently have it on index cards) for the book). I really don't want to revise this novel until I've finished the revision of KD, but...here I am anyway.
