Well, I'm shooing that story back out the door to Baen's this time, I'm just deciding whether to drop it in the slush pile, or sub it directly. I'm still learning.

After the last snow, spring has suddenly appeared around the corner. They aren't predicting a freeze anytime in the next two weeks. (Sorry, folks up north)

I discovered today that the willows are budding out---which means they must be trimmed back NOW!!! (OK, by 'now', I mean tomorrow). Must cut back list....wormwood, chaste tree, bluebeards, willows, butterfly bushes, crepe myrtles, wiegelas, privets (way back), boxwoods, euonymous, yaupons, rose bushes, monster clematis, and the honeysuckle. I figure if I devote an hour per day to cutting things back, I should have the yard in pretty good shape by the time the lawn needs scalping. I hope....

In my not-so-humble opinion, the only good privet is a dead privet. No, wait--scratch that. There is no such thing as a good privet. It's almost as invasive as kudzu, but with less nutrition and fewer uses. :-)

Kudzu! ::trembling in fear:: Nasty stuff.

We have two, and I could get away with trimming the monsters every two weeks. The buildder put them there...not me. I'll never plant them, myself.

I wouldn't want to try eating privet.
