An auction on Ebay-Belgium closed today at 70 Euros for a copy of Ansen Dibell's Aux confins de l'ouragan (Tidestorm Limit). That's the lowest I've seen one go for a long time. (There's one currently available on Priceminster-France for 135 Euros. Eep!) I still couldn't bring myself to bid on it.

I do want the book eventually. There were only 1530 copies ever printed (in French), so I know I'm going to have to pay--but not that much, not today.

I've also run across it listed in Creative Commons, which I'll have to check out.

I've read book 5 in the series (The Sun of the Grand Return, or Le soleil du grand retour), so I have a pretty good idea what happens in book 4, but there are tidbits that I want to know....like what happened to Garin and Sua. Oh, well....

Perhaps next year.

I don't blame you, I couldn't spend that much on something I wanted. But, two years ago I bought a book, "Where Troy Once Stood" for younger daughter for around $160.00-ish.

Sometimes it's worth it....but in this case a)it's just for me, and b) I already know the basic idea of what happens, so no, not today.

Mon francais est tres mauvais. I read that as "At the edges of the hurricane" which has a completely different feeling than "Tidestorm limit". There's so much subtlety that gets lost when one translates, isn't there? I envy y'all bilinguals for being able to to appreciate the rhythms of more than one language (as opposed to barely being able to squawk out "ou est les toilettes hommes, s'il vous plait?")

That's one reason I practice reading in French. If I don't, I'll forget the flow of hte language.

It's also interesting how much difference the translator makes. I have some of marthawells's books in French, and the books from the Ile-Rien series are much easier to read than Le mort du necromant, solely because there was a different translator.
