Dark Crystal/Story Thoughts
Feb. 6th, 2008 01:26 pmWatched part of The Dark Crystal today while I was digging caulk out from around the kitchen sink. If this hadn't been done with puppets, it would have been the hokiest movie ever. Sorry, but it's true. The puppets were what made it glow. Particularly Fizz-gig. Also, Aughra was exceptionally cool.
Worked on stories this morning.
1)I think the re-write of The Bear Girl is going well. I upped the age-level on the POV voice, which takes out some of the creepiness. I also moved the 'revelation' to the next to last scene, which will take care of my plot problem. (The revelation won't be a surprise to ANYONE who has a brain, but then again, it's all about form.) I expect to get it out the door this week for certain.
2) Read Shared Dreams for the first time in months It really holds up until about 3 scenes before the end....where the steam peters out and the ending falls flat. Gotta do some work on that one, but I'll put it aside for now--it needs too much.
3) Read through the beginning of The Dragon's Price, the scenes where K and her family have gone to visit with her father, Prince Ilya. I really love these scenes but, unfortunately, they have to go. Drat! This will shorten the story, but also make it tighter, which is the why. I'll keep the scenes for my "Deleted Scenes" file.
4) Will tackle the eretik story later. This is my goal for the gym today...think of a good name for it while I'm on the treadmill.
