Morgues and More Rain
Jun. 29th, 2007 11:03 amI'm reading Death's Acre and the author poses the rhetorical question of "Why are our morgues always in basements? Why not in sunny upstairs rooms with great lighting?" (paraphrase)
I read that and reflected that I almost always write my morgues in basements. It just makes sense to me. This is a place most people don't want to visit, so we stick it in an out of the way place that no one else wants. (Basement spaces are not usually in high demand, I expect.)
Of course in the old days, dead bodies were laid out in the front sitting room for a few days, but times have definitely changed.
