Short story roll call

Misty afternoon at the park with Mr. Loki.
Finished the PB story ROUGH draft last night, coming in right about where I thought it would. Rolls eyes.
Some kind flisters went through and read the draft of D2 for me. I hope to take a first look at those today. Much thanks to
orogeny,
jtglover, and
ckastens! Also thanks to those who said they might be willing to read D3, whenever I start working with the draft of that.
Sometimes you write a story, and you just know it's not really pro-market material. Some of these are going to take weird little niches for homes. Which is OK, just not as lucrative. Still not going to trunk them.
I've got 3 stories in the trunk.
One is juvenile, and I know it. Sort of a vignette. Stupid.
The second I just plain don't like (this is an odd thing, in that I was told that the story was publishable as-is by some impressive people. I sent it to 4 markets and then trunked it because....I really don't like the story myself. ::shrugs::)
The third was written for a specific market, sold, but then the market folded. I don't like it well enough to ever try sending it anywhere else. If I don't like it, why should anyone else.
I do, however, have some stories that I consider 'on' the trunk rather than in it. These are more on the 'back burners' so to speak. They're stories that I think I can eventually get to work--I'm just not messing with them right now.
SD? I don't really like the second half. I can fix it, but I don't know how yet.
AMOD? Too complex for the time allotted.
Missing words? It's a novel, not an SS, and I know it.
Arranged? Cute concept, not easy to work it into a stand-alone story.
Hero's Wife? I just have no clue what I want to do with this thing. Rough Draft is done, but do I want to put the effort into it? So it's 'on' the trunk, when it probably should be in the SS "WORKING" pile.
And the SS WORKING pile?
D2, D3, and D4 (plus that stupid bit that I keep writing on that has no plot)
The horsey novella--no name yet.
All the other short stories are out. The whole whopping 6 of them. Woo, tremble in fear...
Back to the WIP soon!

Date: 2008-10-14 09:14 pm (UTC)and I trunk/ obliterate stories quite easily. no sense in wasting time with something that is a time waste, if I don't enjoy it.

Date: 2008-10-14 10:18 pm (UTC)I did, however, like that story. I simply knew it was messed up.

Date: 2008-10-14 09:44 pm (UTC)6 may not seem a lot to you, but it's twice as good as three and infinitely better than none. (double-jeopardy-grin) Check out my third-quarter stats entry -- the table shows some of the progress from June 2002. Your mileage will vary, of course.

Date: 2008-10-14 11:44 pm (UTC)There are also times when I have two out.
I was talking to Sonya Sipes at Fencon, and told her that the reason I wanted the BIS anthology was that you were in it. And, BTW, I liked your story best....if I haven't told you before. ;o)
