Well, I for one would much rather see Enchanted than Beowolf.. So not 'everyone' I guess ^_^. Of course with a 19 month old, I will get to see neither.
I think we English majors have gotten burned by such films too many times in the past. Honestly, the only reason I'm planning to see Beowulf is because I love 3-D movies. :D
I very much don't want to see Beowolf. The image capture tech creeps me out. Do not want. Also, from a still I saw, stilleto heels on the mother character? Why, god, why?
My sister asked me over the weekend if I was going to see Beowulf and I told her no, but that she was right to assume I might want to. I'd see it if someone had the DVD and offered me food to come over and watch it.
Enchanted. I've never heard of, but we've had the whole Seamus Heaney rewriting, or translation, or whatever it was, of Beowulf over here, and I now have suffered as much Beowulf out of my peripheral vision as I can endure. I can't even bring myself to read the reviews for it, I'm that over killed, so I don't even know if the film is meant to be good or bad. On the other hand, one of the daily papers is giving away Fantasy DVDs and Arabian Nights looks really interesting. Must sit back some night and watch that. It's ages since I've had any kind of exposure to Arabian Nights.
See, my mother had this trick -- she kept a copy in the car. This was in the days when you could still run into the store and leave the kid in the car.
Three of her four kids ended up reading it that way.
But in defense of my non-pure streak, I loved the Shrinklit version.
i find beowulf extremely visually unappealing -- and animation was my major. just... squick. i could listen to it. since neil gaiman wrote it i'm sure the writing will rock. but i just can't get past the uncanny valley/3d animation thing.

Date: 2007-11-19 08:25 pm (UTC)Both are too hollywood for me. One with to much action and probably no story whatsoever, and the other one a sugar-coated pseudo-fairytale. I'll pass!
BTW, just yesterday I saw a fun little comedy on TV: "Dead by Monday", a Canadian-Swiss-German production.

Date: 2007-11-19 11:14 pm (UTC)I'm afraid I would have trouble watching Beowulf because I *would* want it to match the epic poem, which I read at the ripe old age of ten.
