Improving/Promised Cookie Blog

I'm feeling better this morning, but still exhausted. My temperature was back down to normal, 96.5 degrees. (Yes, I'm part snake)

Anyhow, the promised Bacon Chocolate Chip Cookie blog.

Anyway, I carefully followed the instructions, and ended up with a dough that looked like this:

I cut that into 36 pieces:

Cooked, then topped each with a maple cinnamon glaze and a bit of bacon garnish:

So, verdict on the cookie?

Well, you don't really taste the bacon in the cookie. It tastes a bit salty, and adds a texture reminiscent of coconut, but otherwise, this is pretty much a cookie. The main argument we had was whether or not to garnish the cookie, or leave it plain to befuddle possible eaters.

My sister has decided to make them for her party on Thursday, so we'll ssee what kind of review they get there.

So overall? The cookie itself is pretty good, but the cooking and crumbing of 2 lbs of bacon makes it really time intensive. I think we decided that the main value of the cookie was the shock value....

Sounds great for the sweet addict who is protein impaired.

Well, not me, but there has to be someone out there...

And we were concerned about Tech Support's normal temp being 97.5...

Usually by afternoon I'm up to about 97, morning is a bit lower.

Always been that way. I had a fever of 99.3 last night, which doesn't sound too bad, but it's equivalent to 100.9 for people with normal temps. I'm still exhausted.

Hmmm, even cooked, they look surprisingly like raw meat.

I can see it, though: I mean, salt enhances flavor, fat always makes things tasty... I guess it's disappointing in a way that it's not *more* noticeable that it's bacon, in there.

It would be interesting to give one to someone who didn't know what it was (and didn't have a bacon prohibition) and see if they could taste the bacon as bacon.

One of the reasons we discussed 'no garnish'. We figured that if people didn't know it was bacon, they might not get that.

They were very moist. Also very large cookies, running about 320 calories apiece...

Yes - I think the choice is an "in your face" bacon garnish, or being sneaky, leaving the garnish off. I favor the latter. Sitting back and observing reactions as the unwitting participants eat the bacon-laced cookie.

Of course, if they're a vegan, that would not be nice, so perhaps the more honest garnish would be more thoughtful.

Meant to say yesterday--wah on the sick; glad you're feeling a little better, but take it easy--stomach bugs and fevers take a lot out of you!

(I find it remarkable that you can post about bacon cookies when you've been sick.)

As long as I don't have to eat anything, I'm fine ;o)

Thanks, though. Judging by how weak I feel, I think it will take a while to get back to normal.

I'm part snake too, so much that I've never had a fever since I was 8, and even in the evening my temp is around 97.

The cookies look appetizing.

I hit 97 in the afternoon, too.

Appetizing? Right now, not so much...

I don't think I could get over the effort of cooking, (and the mess,) of 2 pounds of bacon. I'm still trying to find the recipe for my Cardamon-Lemon rounds. Yum, without all that fuss.

Glad to hear you are feeling better. Despite not liking Ginger Ale.

THe 2 pound of bacon was disgusting...

Crazy cookie.

[identity profile] j-cheney.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
It's all about the shock value ;o)

I suppose the bacon in the cookies is kind of like the beef in real mincemeat. (grin)
