Tough Times
May. 8th, 2009 12:12 pmI went by the post office today to drop off a couple of cards and spotted one of the postal employees outside....edging the post office lawn. Yep, they have to do it themselves these days.
A lot of people won't agree, but I think my post office does a bang-up job. I don't recall bills going astray, I get 99.9 percent of everything in good condition, and media mail is far cheaper than it should be. The one time I had my mail stolen, postal inspectors hunted down the culprit and returned my totally unnecessary catalogs to me. (But hey, they got the theives, which is what counts.)
Yep, I bought forever stamps yesterday. But I don't really have a problem with the price hike. The postal service hasn't made a profit in years, and every time someone switches to e-billing, that takes away some of their funding (I am not, BTW, advocating against e-billing. It's a great idea, It just means that the POs revenue stream is decreasing and yet they're still delivering to all the same places--therefore more loss).
I like all my post office folks, and I'd hate to see any of them lose their jobs. :o(
