I'm trying to stay off the computer today because otherwise I'd be checking my e-mail every few minutes. (Yes, why are people who've had a story there 200ish days getting a response when I haven't heard anything on the one that's been there 500 days? Why? Why?)

/angst

Anyhow, I'm offline for the most part. Please don't take it personally if I miss out on your exploits today. Much cleaning going on. And a dentist appt at 3:00. Oh, yay....

;o) I get to live...

Well, I came back up to put away some linens, and gave up and checked my e-mail. And the wait is over.

So it's a sale, after 470 days in the RTF pile. "Afterimage" goes to Baen's Universe for publication in 2010. This is a mundane SF whodunnit piece, braiding together several technologies that are currently in existence (intra-ocular computer implants, facial recognition programs, and camera contact lenses).

Yep, that's a little inside-the-eyeball computer that hooks directly into the optic nerve...

This story never went anywhere but Baen's, and went through the slush conference on the Bar before they asked that it be sent up. I'm really grateful to the editors on the Bar, [livejournal.com profile] samhidaka, Edith Moar, and Gary Cuba, for all their great input, as well as Simon Horvat out in Australia who reminded me that not everyone knows who the TSA is. Oops! Thanks so much!

Also, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] mmerriam who kindly answered my odd questions about blindness and Retinitis Pigmentosa. (My protagonist has RP, and his prosthetics allow him to remain in the police force.)

And now....I get to go to the dentist...bummer.
