marthawells, As reported in Publishers Weekly and elsewhere, President Bush's proposed 2009 budget eliminates all funding for RIF (Reading is Fundamental), which has provided more than 325 million books to underprivileged children since 1966.
If you want to help save their funding, this would be a good time to contact your congressional representatives. The clever folk at RIF have even come up with an on-line form so you can zap your representative with a minimum of personal pain. However, I should point out that if you live in Oklahoma, none of your OK reps or senators have agreed to look at any letters that get sent to them on this, so you (and I) can't fill out the form. That's why we just have to suggest it to others...
Surely this deserves more attention than the OSBP. (I'm not even going to dignify that by providing a link)
