The Waiting...
Mar. 20th, 2008 01:59 pmYesterday, I mentioned a story that's approaching 200 days at a certain market, and got some interesting comments.
I have a few other things out that are sitting....sitting...sitting. I have one thing that's passed a year (386 days). I have yesterday's story, and another that just hit 150. Plus another that I think (hope, actually) will be held till Aug 1 before I hear anything.
There are reasons to keep hanging on. You could simply REALLY want to get into that publication. (Did I wait 149 days for Shimmer? Yes, because I REALLY wanted to get into that magazine!). Someone suggested yesterday that a story might have made the rounds already, and not have too many places left to go. You could just be loath to annoy anyone. Or you could be lazy.
The 386 days, I hope to place at that venue, so I'm willing to wait. I haven't actually reached the normal return time for that market, and I'm the only 'pending' on Duotrope. The 150 days I also want to place, and I'm one of 3 (2 of whom have been pending longer than me, BTW). The 'until August'? Again, I'm the only 'pending'.
The story from yesterday? I'm one of 52 pending with an average wait of 126 days. Now that does make me wonder. If there are 52 of us waiting for four slots...hmmm
(and that's just the subs listed on Duotrope. Anyone know a realistic multiplier for Duotrope?)
