Mundane Fantasy Again....
Sep. 16th, 2007 01:14 pmSo, I'm going through the second re-read of the things I'm supposed to critique for Fencon, and having this terrible feeling that I've shown up to the costume party in street clothes....again.
The other four manuscripts in my group (I've mentioned this before) are High Fantasy. This means gods and demons, sorcerers and magic. Undead...those show up, too...lots of undead.
And, yes, I'm going to be there singing the "One of These Things is Not Like the Others" Song from Sesame Street. They'll be pointing at me and laughing--there's no MAGIC in my story.
I am SO in the wrong group.
BTW, looked about a bit on-line, and discovered that RPG people actually do make that distinction. I found a nifty Genre Guide that backs me up on this (which makes it correct), so perhaps we can start an uprising to have a separate sub-genre codified. Of course,
stinabat told me her work has been called Urban Fantasy set in the 1700s, so I could always say Urban Fantasy set in the 1800s. Nah, too specific.
