Back at the Desk....
Aug. 1st, 2006 10:43 amI got back in town last night and, after sorting through a very high amount of snail mail and e-mail, I'm prepared to get back to work.
I will be heading to ArmadilloCon on the 10th, and so have to critique three stories for that...not a huge commitment. I want to try to get out one short story this month, but it needs a major re-write. I've done a lot of thinking about The White Queen and think I'm going to easily get the first draft finished by AC and begin on the re-write.
Well, I did some reading, cheery sort of fun stuff. I read The Sociopath Next Door by Martha Stout, M.D., and learned about the aliens who actually live on earth and pass for human. In the US, the statistics show that 1 out of 25 people is a sociopath. You probably know a couple. I know that I've run into some before. Very creepy book.
I also read Trauma and Recovery by Judith Herman, M.D., which helped me understand a little bit better why someone might stay in an abusive situation. (I never have understood that.) It was an interesting book, which made me profoundly glad I wasn't one of the subjects of it.
