Curious Reactions
Jun. 25th, 2006 02:35 pmIt's always curious how a critique affects the writer, and I griped yesterday about someone who stroked my fur the wrong way and annoyed me.
When you're going through the critiquing process at Critters (or a Workshop) sometimes you just have to dismiss something if it's way out in the blue. Which is OK, because not everyone 'gets' others writing the same. Some people will read a book that a friend thinks is fantastic and absolutely despise it. (One of my friends reads David Weber, and I just don't get it...)
I think the thing that strikes me as odd is when different people react in opposite manners to the same sentence. I have several people who tell me that they loved the opening line, but one who pointed out that it just didn't work for her. No one else had objections to the "it began to hurt" line.
