Wasted envelope...

I stuffed a story in an envelope to send to ROF this morning. Glad I hadn't put stamps on it, at least. Drat.

I was really puzzled by this post at first, but then I saw the news in someone else's post. Man. Guess I need to find another place to sub the one I had sitting in their slush.

Exactly. At least there's no wait, now ;o) (looking at the bright side)

[identity profile] saycestsay.livejournal.com 2009-01-27 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I have one in the current slush pile.

[identity profile] j-cheney.livejournal.com 2009-01-27 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd say just assume it was a YFOP. ;o)

Sad sigh. We'll see if the manuscript I have there comes back, but I never got anything other than a BFOD. Onward.

[identity profile] j-cheney.livejournal.com 2009-01-27 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Just find another market for it....

[identity profile] dotar-sojat.livejournal.com 2009-01-27 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmmm... so this might explain why I haven't heard back from them in two months. And here I was hoping it was 'cause they liked the story!

Which begs the question, would it be a good thing or a bad thing to be one of the stories in the last RoF?

[identity profile] j-cheney.livejournal.com 2009-01-27 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Here's what worries me. I've got friends whose storie were purchased already, and they're dropping the ax after the issue that's already at press. I suspect several of them won't see their stories in print....and they may be in limbo if they're already paid.

[identity profile] saycestsay.livejournal.com 2009-01-27 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
most contracts have a reversion clause. And most publications are polite enough to just release the stories. I imagine the authors will be sore from not being published but okay otherwise.

[identity profile] j-cheney.livejournal.com 2009-01-27 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm hoping so. None of them has talked about the contract yet, and I don't think they know whether they're in the last issue.....

My first time to submit to this market and it shuts down :( I'm really sorry to hear about this.

[identity profile] j-cheney.livejournal.com 2009-01-27 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, me too.

[identity profile] kara-gnome.livejournal.com 2009-01-27 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it breaks my heart. I've been subscribing for years, and only tried one submission, but I loved that magazine, awesome stories. It seems tragic, really, to think of it as defunct.

[identity profile] j-cheney.livejournal.com 2009-01-27 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
So true....perhpas they'll resurface somewhere, possibly on-line.

[identity profile] melissajm.livejournal.com 2009-01-27 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Dangit, I'm crying...

[identity profile] melissajm.livejournal.com 2009-01-27 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I knew the board was shaky, but I thought the magazine itself would hang on...

[identity profile] j-cheney.livejournal.com 2009-01-27 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, they did say that the magazine was doing 'better than ever' on the web page.

[identity profile] melissajm.livejournal.com 2009-01-27 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel like one of my friends just died.

[identity profile] j-cheney.livejournal.com 2009-01-27 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry...

[identity profile] madwriter.livejournal.com 2009-01-27 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I had one sitting there since mid-December. Sigh. I know it's selfish to say "Guess I'll never know now", but I couldn't help thinking that (especially since most of my last few submissions came back with comments).

[identity profile] j-cheney.livejournal.com 2009-01-27 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
That many fewer pro-paying slots for us...We do have to think about that, part of our 'jobs'.

[identity profile] orogeny.livejournal.com 2009-01-28 08:55 am (UTC)(link)
This was devastating news to wake up to.

Ah, well. If I could stop, I would have stopped already. So... onward!

[identity profile] j-cheney.livejournal.com 2009-01-28 02:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly...
