Bits and bobs
1) Used my Best Buy refund to buy a copy of The Fall, and watched it yesterday while folding laundry, doing dishes, etc. Wow.
2) One of my Arkansas cousins and I headed out to Ted's last night, chatted for quite a while afterward. It was nice to catch up ;o) I am regretting the excessive amount of Habañero salsa, but not enough not to skip it next time. I love the burn.
3) Still working on Iron Shoes and reading Merryland at the same time. Word count hanging between 27 and 28K, but I'll go over 30 in the next few days.
4) Ice in the birdbath all day yesterday, and cloudy and overcast. Blahsville.
5) Mr. Loki is going in for his annual shots today. He doesn't know that yet. We'll do a short walk afterwards, which means I'll have to blundle up.
6) Uh, I can't find the cord for the phone, so I haven't gotten the flooring pictures off yet. Perhaps tomorrow.

Wonderful!
What is Merryland about? And I know you've mentioned Iron Shoes before, but I have never taken the time to say that it's a very intriguing title, and I'd love to hear what sort of story it is.

The premise of the story involves, among other things, a puca who's been trapped in horse shape for a decade by the means of specially-designed iron horse shoes that brushed against his frogs. He's purchased at auction by the owner of a thoroughbred racing farm who thinks that with his racing record he'd be good at stud...until she figures out he's not a horse after all. Yes, it is more romance than fantasy, and will be too long to sell easily.
Merryland is the name of a thoroughbred racing farm in Maryland, and the book is a 2-year diary of the manager. The main thing I've learned so far is that I grossly underestimated the number of injuries that horses suffer. The manager notes that at any time, approximately 50% of his animals are recovering from one injury or another (often from things as innocuous as brushing up against a new wooden fence and cutting their shins). Oh, and one hand had, between January and June, 2 broken collarbones and a broken arm....so it's not just the horses that get hurt.
I like Regency romances, so my word choices are often influnced by that reading base. ;o)

It sounds like an excellent story.

But if not, buying the DVD and watching it on a 42" 1080p plasma TV will have to suffice (when we actually buy the TV, the DVD player, and the disc, that is).
