Eggshells....

I'm writing a story where I'm walking on egg-shells, wondering if I can pull this off without offending. I like the story. I really like it. It's a touchy subject though, and difficult to handle without getting on a soapbox. So I'm walking very gently, trying to tell the characters' stories and nothing more. (I, BTW, don't enjoy soapbox stories where I'm being bludgeoned over the head with the author's opinion, so I work hard to avoid it.)

Because of that, a few thousand words is taking much longer than normal.

All clear...

Had a couple of small tornados in OKC, but we're all fine up here.

Spent about a quarter of an hour in the storm shelter with the dog. I was terrified he was gonna have a stroke, he was so panicked, breathing like a steam engine in my ear. Storm shelters are close and get hot really fast (no air circulation).

The only reason we got underground is that the weathercasters were unusually confused. Generally, these guys know exactly where the cells are, and can lay it out street by street, but evidently these developed so quickly that they didn't have anyone in place to observe. The chasers weren't within miles of the things, which meant that the weathermen were saying things like "EVERYONE in Edmond go to your safe spot." That was weird.

Fortunately, the weather radios and sirens were all going off, so people would have had plenty of warning if they listened. Yay, preparedness!

WOTF Workshop Dates

Got dates seeping out from other WOTF XXIV people (I won't get called, because my Privacy Manager won't let Joni through).

August 10-17, probably at the Malibu Performing Arts Center.

Sadly, this completely knocks out Denvention and ArmadilloCon. Drat!
It's a good thing I'd been holding off on purchasing memberships. Must cancel hotel reservation.

I wonder if I could slink into WFC after all.....
