Time Crunch
Apr. 28th, 2008 12:47 pmSo, I really want to watch a PBS special that's going on right now: Carrier
I'm actually not all that interested in the ship or the planes. What interests me most is the concept of 5300 people stuck with each other, all required in some necessary niche, day in and day out for 6 months. I've seen the first 2 episodes so far, and think it's very balanced.
Why am I interested in this? Well, anyone who might write about the military in space would want to study both the big ships and the subs and their cultures. Much of what I've seen of space opera does this, so this series is rather like going back to the well.
Nautical culture aside, I'm actually more interested in this series for its similarities to a 'buried' society, which must be self-sufficient (again, more like subs, but still similar enough to have value for me).
Ten hours of TV?....I will have to shift my schedule all around!
