Busy week/Rejection/British Markets
Feb. 11th, 2008 01:34 pmI volunteered to host Bunco this week because the person who was supposed to host is having family issues. This means making dinner and desserts for 8-10, buying Bunco prizes, making phone calls, etc. My head already hurts, but the prizes are bought, soon to be wrapped. Groceries purchased.
Got a rejection today from Clockwork Phoenix wherein the editor liked my story, but it doesn't properly fit into his assortment of final selections (see paragraph below, to understand why). I joked when I sent it that I could buy a copy of the anthology and then I would finally understand what they were looking for. Since it appears that this is planned to be an annual effort, I'm hoping that buying a copy and reading it will guide what I send next year ;o)
This story is a British WWI slipstream-ish story, based on an obscure-but-factual governmental department, the Masks for Facial Disfigurement Department. Yes, I'm having trouble figuring out where this puppy could fit. I think a UK magazine might be in order (not Interzone). I'm going to try to get it back out this week, I just need to decide where.
will_couvillier critted The Heretic's Widow for me, and said it read more like novel fodder. ::gasps in false shock:: Since I have 5 stories in this series, each at about 9-10K, he suggests novellizing it. I wish Black Gate would open to submissions....
