Kidney Removal

After viewing the ultrasounds, the dog-surgeon has decided to remove the entire kidney and ureter. The dog will be lop-sided. They will be keeping Freya through tomorrow morning...and possibly through Monday morning, depending on how she bounces back after surgery. As she hasn't eaten in a few days, I'm inclined to the the latter more likely.

(As that kidney was already only partially functional, this is not too much of a surprise. Because they are concerned about the infection, they think it would be better just to take it out, rather than risk infection in hope of restoring an already poorly-functioniing organ. Her blood work indicates that the other kidney is mananging quite well, thank you, and probably has been doing all the work all along anyway. I was told this two years ago when we first discovered the stone.)

ETA: Dog is out of surgery, and doing 'good', according to the surgeon.

Loki is looking forward to being the solitary dog for a couple of days--in the hopes that will translate into more food. And I have a cold. Blah.
