Yeah, central Glasgow's not too bad in that respect. Also, Scots generally speak much more clearly to outsiders than to other natives.
As for my own accent, which would have been a Fife (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fife) accent if I hadn't moved away from Scotland so early, reactions range from "wow, you actually kept your Scottish accent after all these years," to "you're from Scotland?" There doesn't seem to even be a discernible pattern regarding who has what reaction.
