j_cheney: (Book)

Done my part...

...to support our niche of the economy. I bought books. More books....

I purchased [livejournal.com profile] samhenderson's Heaven's Bones and [livejournal.com profile] scbutler's Reiffen's Choice (and a subscription to Smithsonian....can't get by without that!)

When am I going to have time to read these?

Have I finished the influenza book yet? Much less the stack of non-fic still waiting? And my greatly anticipated Lone Star Stories Reader? And the 3 Deborah Crombie mysteries I have backlogged? Plus all the Ian Rankin I promised myself I would get to eventually? My issues of Black Gate?

::sighs::

Do your part. Go buy some books.

ETA: I had to re-check my library book today, too. I've read that book, but most rescan it.

Oh! Oh! Read Heaven's Bones first. It's AMAZING!

It's gotta be, coming from her ;o)

I promised I would finish the non-fic pile first, though. I must....

I need to hit up the Barnes and Noble here. In the past week, I've bought the new Stephen King book on Kindle, Ordered a short story collection from Sci Fi book club, and found 7 books in a used book store (not to mention the huge stack I brought home from WFC), but I have yet to walk into a brick and mortar retail store and just pick up something new.

::cracking whip:: Get out there, girl!

(Actually, I admit mine is coming by mail....I don't like real stores so much.)

[identity profile] gwyndolin.livejournal.com 2008-11-12 05:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll confess, between the Kindle and Amazon Prime, I don't hit real stores that often, but I try to periodically get in to look at the shelves and ogle pretty covers -- and it's hard to walk out without a book in my hand. :)

Buying books is never a problem for me! Reading them, yeah, well, I tend to buy more than I can read in a goodly while, which is why I have books I've bought years ago that I haven't read yet (and still intend to read).

[identity profile] ericmarin.livejournal.com 2008-11-12 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Are you still waiting to receive your copy of The Lone Star Stories Reader, Jeannette?

[identity profile] j-cheney.livejournal.com 2008-11-12 05:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh no, I have it! (I didn't mean to imply otherwise. I greatly anticipate reading it.)

But I promised myself I would wade through my non-fiction by the end of the year....so it's in my 'to read' pile for when I get that far.

I do look forward to it ;o)

[identity profile] j-cheney.livejournal.com 2008-11-12 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
So very true....

[identity profile] aliettedb.livejournal.com 2008-11-12 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, books... I think I used my quota at WFC, to be honest--and I'm under a buying moratorium for the pre-Christmas period (an idea of relatives who became tired of the fact that I owned every gift they could think of).
But come January... *rubs hands in anticipation*

[identity profile] ericmarin.livejournal.com 2008-11-12 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Cool! I wasn't sure, so I thought I'd check. Otherwise, I'd have run off to the post office today. :-)

[identity profile] j-cheney.livejournal.com 2008-11-12 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I actually only purchased one book at WFC...and it was one I already owned a copy of...

Do you think we could suspend time for a year or so so we could catch up on our reading?

[identity profile] dr-phil-physics.livejournal.com 2008-11-12 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)
But then us authors would use that year to write MORE books! (grin)

It never ends.

Dr. Phil

So true...

[identity profile] gabriel-writes.livejournal.com 2008-11-12 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I bought two books yesterday. David Baldacci's Stone Cold, and the Audacity of Hope by our President Elect. With the economy such as it is and with the holidays fast approaching the book budget is kinda small right now.

[identity profile] j-cheney.livejournal.com 2008-11-12 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I know, I know...but we have to do what we can ;o)

[identity profile] gabriel-writes.livejournal.com 2008-11-12 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
The Baldacci book was for my husband! He's a bit nervous about taking library books on assignment with him.

Brought home two more from the library though...A quilt novel and the next Julie Spencer-Fleming book. Every now and then you need a good mystery.

What I'd really like to add to my collection is the next WoTF.

[identity profile] aliettedb.livejournal.com 2008-11-12 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm applying for that suspension right now (you never know :) )

[identity profile] j-cheney.livejournal.com 2008-11-12 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Uh, yeah, we'll get right on that...

I don't kow when it will be avialable in stores, but I promise, I'll comment about it on my blog!

(Good mysteries are always nice)

[identity profile] j-cheney.livejournal.com 2008-11-12 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Man, the French government is way ahead of ours in controlling things!

[identity profile] samhenderson.livejournal.com 2008-11-13 07:09 pm (UTC)(link)
The economy and I thank you!

[identity profile] j-cheney.livejournal.com 2008-11-13 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
You're both welcome!
