Gardenin Post

Yesterday afternoon, I potted up my new Geranium "Sandrine".

They don't look like much yet. They're the dinky things in the lower left pot. The other pots contain things waiting to be transplanted into the garden (maybe next week, if the weather's good. Just so you know, the geranium will eventually look like this:

This is a fairly new cultivar, imported from France and named after the breeder's wife. Of course, when I saw the name I know I had to buy some, as one of my major settings (in several works) is the Province of Sandrine.

Anyhow, I have several cultivars of geranium already, and I purchased a geranium 'grab bag' this spring which has generated several new plants that I have yet to see bloom (therefore I haven't been able to guess much about their identity.) I also have some Geranium "Dark Lord" coming in March '09. How can one resist a cultivar called "Dark Lord"?

Since geraniums take a couple of years to get established, I'm just going to have to be patient. With all the varieties, it will be interesting to see what kind of volunteers I end up with. ;o)

So, I have some fall tasks waiting that I'll tackle as soon as it cools appreciably.
1) Lift and divide the "Dover" and "Starship Enterprise" irises
2) Transplant the Siberian irises
3) Poison the children of the Green Monster
4) Perhaps transplant the "Iceberg" climbing rose. It probably won't survive. The neighbor behind has been dousing his yard with Round-up, and the rose has roots back there.
5) Decide where to move the "White Swan" echinacea. It's too short to see where it's planted now.
6) Plant "Queen of the Night" tulips
7) Mulch
8) Cut back everything.....everything.

I probably have more to do, but that's all the comes to mind now. Just putting up a list so I won't forget anything.

Dark Lord, Queen of the Night...just what is going on in your garden, anyway?
