Oh, Yay!

My Retinitis Pigmentosa story at Baen's is going to the second level!

OK, THIS IS NOT A SALE, but it's a chance at one, for which I'm very grateful. Thanks to all the people and editors who suggested edits along the line and to [livejournal.com profile] mmerriam who answered some strange RP questions for me. Now it goes into a slightly smaller pond with the hand-picked fish--some large fish and some small.

Also, congratulations to Simon Horvat and Nick Wolven, who got thrown into the much smaller (and therefore better chances)"Introducing" pond. Good luck GuYS!

ETA: The Title of the story is actually "Afterimage" (although I really wanted to use "Peristence of Vision"), Retinitis Pigmentosa is a degenerative disease of the retinas which usually leads to blindness, and the story concerns a cop with implants who is trying to solve a crime, but whose implants die part way through the investigation. See implant pic under the cut:

This is one of several types of implants being considered for RP patients...as you can see, it's actually a little receiver/comp implanted inside the eyeball. Cool concept.

Persistence of Vision?

[identity profile] j-cheney.livejournal.com 2007-10-22 05:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep, that be the one. Should have a 1/10 chance now (unlike the normal 1/200 or so in slush piles)

[identity profile] namelessarchon.livejournal.com 2007-10-22 05:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Ok, let me preface this with that fact that I am in no way trying to be insulting ^_^. POV is hands down my least favorite story of yours that I have read. In fact, I pretty much lambasted it on my edit if you remember. Having said that, I want to give you a hearty congratulations on this news. IMHO, if you can get POV picked up, then there is no doubt in my mind you will be a very successful author. More power to you J! Congrats, congrats, congrats!

Ooh, congratulations! Nice work!

Yay!

Fingers crossed for the rest :)

What an unusual name, for a story that is. Congrats on getting pushed up a level. That's the right direction. Hop it goes all the way for you. :)

That were me, the above. Forgot I wasn't logged in, and obviously I'm more hoping than hopping. :)

Good luck!

CONGRATULATIONS!!! is that title 'eye color'?

[identity profile] j-cheney.livejournal.com 2007-10-22 07:48 pm (UTC)(link)
POV had a very diffeerent feel to it...but it was meant to. Not everyone will like. I just hope Eric Flint does.... ;o)

[identity profile] j-cheney.livejournal.com 2007-10-22 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry, Retinitis Pigmentosa is an retinal degeneration disease....lots of research going on now concerning different ways to correct it. ;o)

[identity profile] j-cheney.livejournal.com 2007-10-22 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks! ;o)

[identity profile] j-cheney.livejournal.com 2007-10-22 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a Monday, isn't it?

[identity profile] j-cheney.livejournal.com 2007-10-22 07:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry, the actual name of the story is
"Afterimage", although I REALLY wanted to use "Persistence of Vision"...

It's mundane SF, and if they buy it, would be my first SF sale....which would be kinda cool.

[identity profile] j-cheney.livejournal.com 2007-10-22 07:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Now the waiting...

Thanks for the kind wishes. ;o)

Thanks!

[identity profile] taphien.livejournal.com 2007-10-22 08:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Congrats and good luck!

I really liked "Touching the Dead" and I really hope you'll find a publisher for "Dreaming Death".

[identity profile] namelessarchon.livejournal.com 2007-10-22 08:08 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL, me too!!!!!!!!!

[identity profile] j-cheney.livejournal.com 2007-10-22 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks On the other thing...someday. ;o)

[identity profile] david-de-beer.livejournal.com 2007-10-22 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)

Fantastic! Congratulations!

[identity profile] sarah-prineas.livejournal.com 2007-10-22 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay! Congratulations and good luck with the next round!

[identity profile] j-cheney.livejournal.com 2007-10-22 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, it's only gone to stage 2 (Recommended). That isn't a sale. Even so, I'm very pleased.

[identity profile] j-cheney.livejournal.com 2007-10-22 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks!

[identity profile] j-cheney.livejournal.com 2007-10-22 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Not the same character, and it just happened, sort of. This is an SF story, and the guy has implants which actually see for him for most of the plot....but yeah, I do see a pattern developing.

Thanks for the good wishes. ;o)

[identity profile] kara-gnome.livejournal.com 2007-10-23 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
Urk, seriously, I could have gone all day without that picture, blehhhhhh

:)

How excellent about Round 2, you Rock! I've got my fingers crossed for you :)

[identity profile] j-cheney.livejournal.com 2007-10-23 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
No, the pic is Uber-cool! This is how blindness is going to be cured for a lot of people. Our nervous system is bizarre!

[identity profile] spcpthook.livejournal.com 2007-10-23 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
Congrats on making it this far and good luck with the next hurdle.

[identity profile] j-cheney.livejournal.com 2007-10-23 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
Well, now we have a long wait...long wait.... ;o)
